Actually it's my grade 12 photo from back in 1975. (What can I say? I looked better then than I do now!) I've been married for over 25 years and I have 3 wonderful children. Read on to find out about my bears and how I came to be a teddy bear artist. How I Began Making Teddy Bears. Having always been crafty and having always loved Teddy Bears it was inevitable that sooner or later I would try making a bear. I made my first teddy bear in 1985 from a pattern I found in a magazine. For a number of years I continued using this type of pattern. It wasn't until 1993 that I discovered the world of artist bears and knew I had to try designing my own bears. In 1996 my business ADNER Bears was born. Why, people ask, did I choose ADNER Bears as the name for my business? The answer to that question is that the upper case letters, when read backwards, spell Brenda. About My Bears My bears range in size from about 2 inches to 27 inches. Each bear is entirely hand crafted by myself from my own designs. I use a variety of materials to make my bears, such as mohair, alpaca, synthetic furs and upholstery fabrics. Most of my bears are one of a kind, although I also make a few limited editions, and have on occasion done some open editions. If the bear is large enough, (usually at least 6 inches) I insert a signed and dated wooden heart into their chest before the final seam is closed.
